September 24th 2013 ~Cheshire Young Carers Speaker

The Rotary Club of Chester Deva members have been asked by Club President Stan Foxall to help in supporting his chosen Charity ‘Cheshire Young Carers’ during his year of office.

Kieran Hatton joined members at our meeting as a Speaker for the ‘Cheshire Young Carers’ (CYC)explaining the work carried out by this local Charity.

Founded in 1997 the  Charity was set up to help those young carers, between the ages of 6 to 18 years who daily carry out tasks not normally expected of children. Such tasks as caring for a parent or sibling with mental illness, physical disability or illness, entrenched substance misuse or a learning disability. CYC has a proven track record of delivering high quality service to young carers. By providing group based activities and projects intending to improve carer’s self esteem, confidence and build resilience to help reduce the negative effects of the caring role.

During the last five years CYC has supported 550 young carers and families, developing a range of services to better meet their individual needs. CYC do this by consulting with each young carer and their families to assess what they require and focusing on the specialist support they need.
