May 2015 ~Collection for Nepal Earthquake Disaster


£4231 was raised in Chester City collections, by Rotarians from Chester Deva, Chester, Saughall and Tarporley Rotary clubs, during the May day Bank holiday.2015-05-04 10.36.20

Tesco Chester supermarket store allowed Chester Rotarians to set up a display of the type of tents and supplies, that it is hoped would help those in need in Nepal at this time.???????????????????????????????????

The Nepal earthquake on the 25th April at 11-56 am had an 7.8 Mw intensity at its epicentre in the Gorka district of Nepal. This earthquake, the most powerful in Nepal since 1934  and its lesser after-shocks caused massive devastation in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding countryside.Hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless with entire villages flattened across many districts in Nepal.  It is estimated in Nepal over 7600 were killed, over 1400 injured and more than 450,000 displaced from their homes.

All monies raised will be sent to the ” Rotary Donations Trust for Nepal Earthquake Appeal”

On the bigger picture, this earthquake also had an effect on other countries such as India, China and Bangladash and UN estimates that eight million people have been affected by this earthquake, while 2.8 million people have been displaced by it.
