September 2016 ~ Talk on Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Athletes

img_0181Guest Speaker Professor John Somauroo a Consultant Cardiologist at the Countess of Chester Hospital, gave Chester Deva Rotary members a talk on ‘Athlete’s Heart, Sudden Cardiac Death and Pre-participation Cardiac Screening’.

He gave an interesting insight into the heart conditions existing in athletes between the ages of 14 and 35 and an understanding of the various problems that can exist with the human heart.

This research has a practical use when screening for these heart conditions and he has consulted with many local Football teams such as Manchester City and Liverpool.

It is hoped, that such Pre-participation Cardiac Screening in Athletes will prevent a sudden heart attack, whilst participating in Sport.

Club members thanked John for his talk and hoped to see him again at the Rotary Club social events.
